Thameside Completes Major Pump Replacement Project for Waitrose

Waitrose pump replacement project

Thameside Fire Protection has successfully completed a major fire pump replacement project at a busy Waitrose distribution centre, delivering the works ahead of schedule while minimising operational disruption.

After more than 40 years of service, the site’s three diesel-driven fire pumps required full replacement to improve reliability and reduce the risk of breakdowns and emergency call-outs. The project involved removing and replacing all three pumps within an unusually compact pump room, creating a challenging working environment for the team.

Due to the limited space available, all three engines had to be removed before the new units could be installed. The project also operated under a strict maximum impairment window of just 10 days, including a planned 24-hour closure of the distribution centre’s ring road to allow critical access and lifting operations to take place safely.

To help minimise downtime, Thameside’s pump team worked during the day while the Installation Service Team simultaneously fitted new valves and non-return valves, ensuring the programme remained on track throughout the project.

All works were carried out in accordance with LPC and British Standards requirements, with the project completed fully commissioned and including refurbishment and repainting of the pump room.

The project was finished one day ahead of schedule, providing the client with a modern, more reliable fire pump system designed to reduce future maintenance issues and improve long-term system performance.

The successful completion of the project reflects Thameside Fire Protection’s ability to deliver complex fire protection works within live operational environments while maintaining tight deadlines and high standards of workmanship.

A huge well done to everyone involved in delivering another successful project safely, efficiently and ahead of time.
